Basically it's an easy read about an NFL 3rd string quarterback who goes to play football in Italy where it's pretty much a club sport. I wouldn't really consider this a sports book, more a life story with life lessons (fictional).
The second book I read was also a life story with life lessons, but much more heart wrenching and depressing...Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns. I would not consider this book a "beach read", not light hearted enough, although I do recommend this book.

This book is mainly about the lives and treatment of people (primarily women) in Afghanistan over the past 35 years. It is a history lesson in the most personal of ways. At one point I wanted to put this book down and never finish reading it, but I am glad I read through to the end.

Thanks for sharing! I read a great book about women in Iran in which I learned a lot about their modern history. "Reading Lolita in Tehran" by Azar Nafisi. I highly recommend it! It's a true story about a woman college professor who teaches english literature and the issues she therefore faces.
Great post Kel. I'm always looking for ideas. In fact, it's my turn to pick the book for book club. We read the his first book, "The Kite Runner". If you haven't read that, it's another tough one, but definitely worth the read and I heard the movie is just like the book.
Michelle, since you highly recommend "Reading Lolita in Tehran", I'm going to pick it for our group. Thanks for buying two copies by accident!! :-)
Good for you for reading two books over your break! That's always a good sign--if you got through them quickly, they must have been good reads.
I could not put down "Twilight" and finished it in 3 days. I wanted to go out and buy the 2nd one immediately, but am trying to space it out a bit. :)
Kristy, let me know what you think of the other Twilight books. We watched the first movie at our last book club. It was better than I expected.
